Joan Lao and American Amy Thomas create environments using TINO’s textures in natural stone

The last edition of CasaDecor’08, held in Madrid on 10-11 May offered the latest decorating trends with proposals from top interior design professionals. Among the international decorators presenting their work at this must-attend avant-garde event, especially noteworthy spaces included those by the Catalan Joan Lao and the American Amy Thomas, who chose to use TINO’s natural stone textures to create their spaces.

For Ramiro Álvarez, TINO Stone Group’s Director of Image and Design, ‘It is an honour for two professionals with the talent and experience of Joan Lao and Amy Thomas to decide to ally themselves with our brand and base their creative proposals on our natural stone textures in a setting as exceptional as CasaDecor.’

Joan Lao creates another space for better living
One of the hallmarks which make designer Joan Lao’s work so unmistakable is his ability to transfer his conceptual basis to his work. In this project, the Catalan artist used different types of TINO natural stone with various textures, including Cotton, Flamed, AD and Impronta Line, all supplied and installed by TINO Stone Group itself. For this event, the materials used were Basalto and Titanio, from the Metal collection.

Joan Lao’s work in support of comprehensive interior design was expressed in this edition of CasaDecor08 in Madrid through the use of textures which underline the Catalan’s pro-natural message. The designer made use of TINO stone textures to recreate tactile sensations on the floors and a large wall of his loft. In this way, TINO flooring and walls combine with cotton, silk, leather and velvet to awaken the sensuality of those who live in the space.

Joan Lao expresses it in this way: ‘There is interior design which gives a feeling of balance. In it every element has been involved: architecture, movement, furniture, composition, colour, texture, proportion, light, aroma, temperature, sound…elements which form an overall structure. It is the perfect balance and harmony of each piece, and that of these pieces with the whole which makes an interior design project offer that feeling of equilibrium and in that way fulfil its essential aim: to make one live better.’

Amy Thomas, natural stone as a concept for wellness
For Amy Thomas, the TINO space is a bathroom with a view which is conceived as a wellness area in which light, water, paint and natural stone come together. The environment is utterly metropolitan, incorporating the latest generation of TINO textures from the Metal collection.

The American designer seeks the contrasts in textures which natural stone offers. For this reason, on this occasion Thomas used Graphito to give the wet area an appearance which  was distinct from the rest of the loft she presented at CasaDecor08. She separated the bedroom and dressing room with black and white nuances which link to the black and white touches in the bathroom, which in turn connects to the indoor garden which brings even more life to the room. In the bathroom space, Amy Thomas uses TINO fixtures, concept and design from the same firm.
